Cystic Fibrosis

CYSTIC FIBROSIS AWARENESS COMPETITION:

(Earned Third Place in the 2020 National PRSA ICON Awards & Received an Award of Merit in the 2021 Nebraska PRSA Paper Anvils)

Campaign Role: Social Media Specialist & Researcher

Across the globe, 70,000 people suffer from Cystic Fibrosis (CF). In the United States alone, 30,000 people live with the disease, about 270 of those are Nebraskans. Every year 1,000 people are diagnosed with CF. Every day, people with CF will take more than 45 pills as part of their treatment.

Due to the increasing number of CF diagnoses and the lack of awareness concerning CF, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) chapter decided to take on the challenge of creating a campus event to draw attention to this genetic disease and its effects. We wanted to increase awareness among our campus of key facts that surround this disease.

Our mission focused on educating college students through quizzes and Kahoot. We began our campaign in October 2019 by conducting secondary research and reviewing the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Nebraska (CFFNeb.) websites. The site showed ways to get involved with the CFF and contained information about CF, life with CF and a blog that features community stories. We wanted our campaign to raise awareness for CF and make college students more empathetic towards the challenges those fighting CF face
